Building Western New York Spring / Summer 2026

Client Profile + Needs

For the Spring/Summer 2026 edition, the Construction Exchange sought to produce their largest and most content-dense issue to date. The project required a sophisticated design approach to organize an extensive collection of project features, including major developments like the University at Buffalo Landing at Ellicott and the Torn Space Theater renovation. The goal was to maintain the high-end editorial standard established in previous issues while managing the logistical complexity of a 100+ page publication filled with technical articles, member highlights, and high-volume advertising.

Yellow Umbrella Creative’s Impact

We continued our partnership as the lead creative for the magazine, focusing on a refined layout strategy that balances technical industry data with professional storytelling. By treating the publication as a curated experience rather than just a collection of articles, we ensured the magazine remains the premier visual voice for the Western New York construction community.

Strategic Editorial Layout: We managed the visual architecture of the entire issue, organizing dozens of features and reports. We take a meticulous approach to the flow of the magazine, ensuring that competing trade advertisements and similar project types are strategically separated to provide every contributor and advertiser with distinct visibility.

Custom Article Branding: To keep the reader engaged through 100+ pages, we developed custom layouts for article. By alternating brand colors and typography styles, we gave stories like the UB Ellicott cover feature a unique, branded feel while maintaining total continuity with the overarching Construction Exchange identity.

Precision Data Management: We handled the heavy-lift technical sections, including the comprehensive member directory. We prioritized absolute accuracy in formatting hundreds of individual company listings, ensuring the directory remains a reliable and functional tool for the association’s 900+ members.

Visual-First Production: We maximized the impact of professional project photography throughout the issue, pairing high-resolution imagery with clean, modern design. We oversaw the production process from initial concept to final print-ready files, ensuring a seamless delivery for the organization’s most ambitious publication yet.
