Client Profile + Needs
The Construction Exchange of Buffalo and Western New York required a complete reimagining of their flagship publication. For the Spring/Summer 2025 issue, the goal was to elevate the magazine from a traditional trade update to a high-end, editorial-style publication that reflected the massive scale of development happening in the region. The project required a designer who could manage a heavy volume of technical data, high-resolution project photography, and complex advertising layouts while maintaining a cohesive, sophisticated aesthetic.
Yellow Umbrella Creative’s Impact
Yellow Umbrella Creative took over the creative direction and layout of the magazine, establishing a new visual standard for the organization. We moved beyond simple page assembly to provide full-scale publication design and editorial oversight.
Editorial Redesign & Visual Language: We developed a modern system and typography styles that allowed the content to breathe. By prioritizing high-impact layouts and professional whitespace, we transformed the magazine into a quality, high-use guide that association members were proud to display.
High-Stakes Feature Layouts: The Spring / Summer 2025 issue featured a deep dive into the construction of the new Buffalo Bills home, Highmark Stadium. We designed this cover story to be a visual powerhouse, balancing technical construction details with sweeping architectural photography to capture the significance of the region’s largest infrastructure project.
Ad Management & Production Logistics: We managed the complex integration of multi-tier member advertisements, ensuring that sponsor assets were high-quality and aligned with the magazine’s new premium look. We oversaw the entire production process from initial concept to final print-ready files, ensuring delivery on a tight seasonal deadline.
