Construction Allies in Action

Client Profile + Needs

Construction Allies in Action is a Grand Rapids-based nonprofit that supports minority contractors.

In 2020, Construction Allies in Action was a vision without a visual identity or a digital home. They needed a comprehensive brand ecosystem that could speak with authority to both general contractors and underrepresented business owners. The objective was to launch a non-profit that could bridge the gap in the construction industry through education, networking, and accessible resources.

The project required:

  • Foundation: A brand identity that felt established, trustworthy, and industry-relevant.
  • Infrastructure: A website capable of housing a searchable, real-time database of minority- and women-owned businesses.
  • Voice: Professional copywriting and messaging to communicate complex program details and the mission of generational change.
  • Growth: A scalable marketing engine to manage memberships, event registrations, and ongoing community engagement.

Yellow Umbrella Creative stepped in as a strategic partner, taking ownership of the brand’s entire marketing and digital operations. By functioning as a Fractional CMO, we ensured that every touchpoint, from the first email a donor receives to the searchable directory a contractor uses, was cohesive and high-performing.

Strategic Branding & Visual Identity
We developed the original CAIA logo system and visual brand guidelines, creating a professional aesthetic that resonates with both corporate partners and local trade businesses. 2026 saw an updated brand package with deeper colors and improved font pairing to increase visibility. We continue to direct the strategic evolution of the brand as the organization grows.

Digital Ecosystem & Directory Development
We designed and built a purpose-built WordPress website featuring a custom, searchable online directory. This core asset allows CAIA to fulfill its mission by connecting contractors with partners in real-time. We manage all backend updates, ensuring the platform scales alongside their membership.

Omnichannel Marketing & Content Strategy

  • Email & Automation: Built 10+ automated trigger sequences to streamline onboarding and program sign-ups. We’ve deployed hundreds of targeted campaigns for newsletters, event invites, and legislative updates.
  • Social Media Management: We execute full-scale content creation and page management, positioning CAIA as a thought leader in the construction equity space.
  • Professional Copywriting: From website copy and marketing brochures to specialized press releases, we ensure the CAIA voice is consistent, persuasive, and clear.

Since the 2021 launch, CAIA has evolved from a startup nonprofit to a recognized organization in West Michigan. By offloading the entirety of their marketing and technical operations to Yellow Umbrella, CAIA leadership is free to focus on what they do best: building a more equitable construction industry.
